So, I previously wrote a story about how I started writing, but I made up my mind to write another when I’m more ready, and here it is.
Everyone is born with the innate ability to be exceptional at certain things. And then it was mostly about singing and dancing. One would look at you and wonder what else your creator might have given you if not the gift of stage performance and entertainment but that pressure didn’t get to me for some weird reason, even when I knew I hadn’t started digging into the treasures my creator gifted me. I was sure that when I eventually started, I’d find something good.
Right into the main tea.
I started writing when I was nine years old, and right from when I was a child, I would always engross myself in novels—anyone I could get my hands on—reading and never getting tired. The day it all started was when I went to my aunt’s house to babysit her son, as I had just completed my primary six (FEC) exams. She asked me what I’d like to do to keep myself busy, and I told her I’d like to read a book. She handed me three books precisely, and I started reading. There was this particular novel that I was so glued to, and I decided I was going to need enough time to really enjoy it, so I was about to leave. I asked my cousins, who had just come back from school, if I could take it, and they nodded their heads, so I did. On getting home, my mom got a call from my aunt asking about the books; she said they were for her maid and she needed them. My mom apologized and promised to return it the next day, after which she scolded me, but that didn’t really make me feel bad because I was going to be with the books throughout the night and I was going to enjoy reading them as much as I wanted to.
So after I read the book (the particular one I was so glued to), the storyline was stuck in my head. I just felt this urge to write something similar, so I requested a notebook, and my mom gave me a green 60-page notebook. I remember so vividly, and so I started writing. I kept on writing, and I wasn’t even getting tired. I enjoyed telling those stories, and it gave me a sense of peaceful satisfaction. I loved to live in other people’s hearts and write down their pain and stories like I knew all of them, like we had shared them together.
And the journey started. I kept on writing, and I had friends that would read, comment, and even go on to ask for more. That gave me more zeal and strength than I ever needed. So when I got an Android phone, my older brother introduced me to Wattpad, but I didn’t really start anything serious there; it just didn’t satisfy me for reasons I don’t know. I never really felt at peace writing on the platform, so I just go there to read and have fun.
The longing that birthed my blogsite came out of the unsatisfaction of writing on Wattpad. I wanted something else—a safe space. I wanted to be a blogger, but my knowledge was limited because I thought blogging ended with fashion, gossip, and lifestyle. Little did I know. I wasn’t interested in all of those things. I wanted to have a storytelling blog, and I had not seen anything like that. That got me worried, but I didn’t stop worrying. I opened Google and typed "How to create a blogsite," and I stumbled on Wix. I clicked on it, did all the necessary inputs, and twalah! Here was my blogsite staring at me in the face. "DROPS OF CREATIVITY" I was happy, yet so skeptical. So I just abandoned it. A few months later, my older brother brought up the subject of creating a site for me, and I told him I had one already. He requested to see it and did some finishing touches, and I was still so skeptical about putting something out there. So, I was perusing through Instagram one day and I stumbled on a writer's page. She had a link in her bio; I clicked on it and found out it was a storytelling blog. Just the right validation I needed that I wasn’t about to start something stupid. And coincidentally, it was the same app. I have never felt so excited. I quickly went back to my site, decorated it, and decided to put something out. My first blog post was "How I Started Writing." I was so scared, but I posted it anyway, and that’s how it has been.
I feel satisfaction every time I open it to have a peek. I feel so grateful. And more than happy that I could tell a better story.
THE END.
Thank you so much for reading 🙏
Please come back again💕.
